10:46 am Sunday - Confirmation Class

January - May, 2009

11:00 am Sunday - Middle School and High School

Junior/Senior (7th-12th grades) Sunday School is held Sunday mornings at 11 am in the Ark.  Our goal is to teach the students about the Bible while showing how it applies to their lives today.  This year we will be participating in the Amazing Bible Race and studying the Bible from start to finish.

The Sunday School is a place for the youth to develop their faith as they struggle with the questions in their lives. Through study of the Bible, group discussion, and an application of the material to their own lives, the youth explore what it means to be a Christian.

Sunday Night Youth Ministry

6:00-7:30 pm Senior High
7:00 -8:30 pm Junior High
Junior High Ministry

The Junior High Youth Group includes grades 6-8 and meets in the Ark on Sunday nights from 7-8:30 pm.  The goal of the Jr. High Youth Group is to help transition the youth from the role of child to that of adolescence and recognize their growing independence and accountability.  We now have the opportunity to flesh out the Bible stories they learned when they were younger and introduce them into the context of the Bible as a whole.  We also address emerging life issues and how to apply God’s word to the decisions we are now faced with.  All of this is mixed together with Christian fellowship and fun, building positive lasting relationships.

Senior High Ministry

The Senior High Youth Group includes grades 9-12 and meets in the Ark on Sunday nights from 6-7:30 pm.  The goal of the Senior High Youth Group it to help enable these young adults to grow in the understanding of the message of Jesus Christ and how to shine as his light in the world that tries to pull us away from Him.  As with the Junior High we leave room for the tough questions, the doubts and pain of life, and how they affect our relationship with God. Let us not forget the fun and fellowship that we began in Jr. High is carried throughout the Sr. High ministry.

Youth Ministry Activities

Youth Praise Band

The youth praise band is an opportunity for our Youth Group members who have musical talents to come together and help lead us in praise and worship on Sunday nights between 7-7:30 pm.  Praise band members are asked to practice together one other night of the week to prepare for the following Sunday worship.

Ministry Team: Youth Mission Trips

The annual mission trip is traditionally held the second week of July.  The location of the trip varies from year to year and is influenced by the youth and where they feel that they will be able to help make a difference.  Our goal is to go share the love of Jesus by demonstrating a caring attitude and assisting others in need.  Although the mission trip is organized for the youth it is open to everyone interested in helping others.

Requirements to go on the mission trip include active attendance at Jarrettown UMC, participating in local service throughout the year, and demonstrating a Christian lifestyle.

ARK Ministry Concerts

The Ark building provides us with a great opportunity to reach out to the local community.  We open our doors for local bands to come and play to raise funds for various charities.  These concerts provide multiple services:

1. To provide a safe environment for local youth to congregate and express themselves.

2. To raise social awareness of the needs of the world and provide an opportunity to become involved in charities that the youth feel drawn to.

3. To introduce the community to the church in a format that may challenge their stereotypes.

4. Provide a non-judgmental place where unbelievers can ask questions and learn about Christ and the Church.
